Don’t give away what the Soldiers fight to keep.

I’ve been sitting here re-reading the Bill of Rights and thinking over some recent events.

Our rights are under attack. Our rights have been under attack for quite some time now. Decades have passed as society becomes it’s own worst enemy.

Schools teach conclusions and memorization instead of logic and thought.
Media publishes opinion and interpretation instead of fact.
Government hides behind complexity and calls it transparency.
The power has shifted from the people to the government.
Our individual wants have become law instead of opportunity.
The elite rich get preferential treatment and we call it celebrity.
Criminals are housed better than our soldiers.
We embrace tyranny in the guise of safety and security.

You may say “not every time” but even one instance is a violation of our rights and if it’s not being opposed it’s being endorsed by apathy. I could list links to other sources supporting those statements. I will not. Feel free to do your own research and prove my conclusions wrong. My desire is for citizens to be better informed and more diligent in the application of their responsibility.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
We do not have the RIGHT to a car or a home or business or a college education. What we have is the OPPORTUNITY to achieve these things. We also have the OPPORTUNITY to FAIL.

I don’t feel the need to make people wear helmets, belts, parachutes or condoms.
I don’t feel the need to make people attend church.
I don’t feel the need to make people eat healthy food.
I don’t feel the need to make doctors treat sick people.
I don’t feel the need to make people carry guns.
I don’t feel the need to make people boycott R rated films.

What I personally choose to do, or what I think people SHOULD do, is irrelevant to everyone outside my immediate family. People, in a FREE STATE, are allowed to CHOOSE.

Large parts of our society seem to believe their WANTS are NEEDS and as such should be legislated or regulated.

Not wanting to walk to work does not mean cars are a NEED.
Not wanting to be sick does not make health care a NEED.
Not wanting to be hot does not make air conditioning a NEED.

The Preamble to Bill of Rights clearly states it’s intent “…at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added…”. Meaning, the motivation behind the creation of the Bill of Rights was: some of the States felt the need to ensure Government did not abuse the powers given it by the Constitution.

Amendment I
Congress shall make no law …

Amendment II
… shall not be infringed.

Amendment III
No Soldier shall…

Amendment IV
… shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, …

Amendment V
No person shall be held … nor shall any person be subject … nor shall be compelled … nor be deprived … nor shall private property be taken for public use…

Amendment VIII
… shall not be required, …

Amendment IX
…shall not be construed …

Clearly this is a list of “restrictive clauses” designed to limit the power of the Government.

Amendment X
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Meaning, the STATES AND THE PEOPLE get the rest. Anything not specifically delegated to the Federal Government by the Constitution is the realm of the STATES AND THE PEOPLE.

The Constitution is not a list of things the Government MUST DO. It is a list of things it’s ALLOWED TO DO. ONLY. JUST. NOTHING ELSE.

It will continue to worsen until we take responsibility, demand action and make it stop.
We must do so while we still have the ability. Before the tools of liberty are taken from us by the people entrusted to defend them.

Free Speech is under attack
– radio, television, and even the internet are being restricted
Peaceful Assembly is under attack
– curfews are being enforced
– neighborhood travel is being restricted
Right to Keep & Bear Arms is under attack
– this is the biggie Ladies and Gentlemen. This is the one that keeps the Government from FORCING us.

Let’s stop giving away the things our soldiers fight for.
